Description
9" inch tall detailed scale copy of a traditional Kowaku Ceramic Lantern Statue is 2 separately made molded parts and accomodate a candle. Traditional Asian lanterns and pagodas are essential to give authenticity to a Eastern themed garden with its simplicity and harmony. Lanterns and pagodas come in many different styles, sizes and shapes and have a hollowed light chamber (hibukuro) made to hold a light source. Originally, garden lanterns (ishi-doro) and pagodas were introduced into Japan from China in the 6th century (Asuka period) at the same time as Buddhism to light the front of Buddhist temples. I n the late 1500s Japanese tea-master Sen-no-Rikkyu made them more popular by adding them as a light source for evening tea ceremonies. Today, pagodas add simplicity, depth, and balance to the gardens, aquariums, Bonsai arrangements, and accents within the greenery--a beautiful addition to any fine garden landscape setting.
